Why are we so fascinated with Artists?

Grace In These Times - 36x36 Oil on Canvas 2022

Following is a reflection from my morning journal and devotion time. Why are people (myself included) so fascinated with artists?

I don’t think it’s the artist we are fascinated by. I think it’s the creativity, and even more, the True Creator who is flowing through the artist.

What is it about viewing the work of someone else that touches parts of us that we didn’t know existed? Sometimes these can be beautiful, uplifting and positive feelings - and other times, we are faced with self-doubt.

I’ve tried to get to a place that I step back and admire in all cases, as I believe that the True Creator - God, is the one who is trying to speak to us through new people that come into our lives. God sparks joy, and he also sparks moments of growth - which can often be painful. But, through it all, there is always lessons and love.

This shift of thinking has allowed me the freedom to love art, and love God in an even deeper way - when we fall short of acknowledging the source of creativity, we are taking away depths that messages may carry.

I feel like I’m seeing, hearing, and feeling things on a higher level since I began walking in complete sobriety on October 11, 2022. There is a depth to my art that wasn’t there before because I’m no longer numbing my feelings. I want to embrace them all - even when they hurt.

I’m more authentic and as a result, so is my art.

This blog post is as much an expression of my creativity as my paintings are. Thank you for being here with me.

Journal prompt:
What is God teaching you through others right now?

Blessings and peace to you today my friends.
