An amazing workshop in Parksville!

Once again I was blessed to teach an amazing group of artists on Vancouver Island.  The McMillan Arts Centre in Parksville is such a perfect venue for classes.

We had a lot of fun, and everyone worked so hard.  There were many exciting breakthroughs & I can’t wait to come back for a follow-up class.

Workshop demo …. start to finish

At my workshop in Surrey last month, I started a demo of an intuitive landscape painting.  I promised my students that I would post photos of the painting “after” I had time to work on it.  Here are the results, before, during & after:

This is the demo painting without any editing…..not the best demo I’ve done by far!

Here are some ‘during’ photos (work in progress):

Almost done!

Progression of an Abstract Intuitive painting

This was a painting I started in Parksville last week – the goal being to demonstrate the beginning of an abstract painting.  Here is a picture approx. 15 mins into the demo…..

Stage 1 Abstract Demo

After getting back to my studio, I took another stab at it, and the first thing I felt I needed to do was re-orient the painting (from a portrait to a landscape). I enhanced a few areas that were bothering me, and this was where I took it next (or should I say, it took me!):

Abstract demo phase 2

After teaching ‘intuitive painting’ last week, I felt lead to exercise my own ‘letting go’. I was frustrated with this painting, and ready to give up. How can I teach the concept of intuitive painting if I’m not willing to take risks myself? So I did, and here is where the painting took me……

It’s not done yet, but I’m pleased with the results so far. I’ll keep you posted, and thanks for your interest in my art! Much love, Jenn xo

A New Chapter…..

I have taken a big step this week…..one that was not easy to take, but was necessary (I believe)  in order to walk through doors that have been opening in recent months.

I have shied away from teaching for many reasons (not the least of which is I have been afraid to do it!).  The idea of painting in front of others excites & terrifies me.  One of the most inspiring things I have ever seen in my life was an artist who painted “Live” in front of a huge audience ……

I get shivers every time I watch this video.

By no means am I suggesting that I expect to be painting live on “America’s Got Talent” any time soon……that isn’t the point.  The point is that I am taking steps to make room for more time & energy to be devoted to teaching.  I feel called to inspire others to capture their full potential.  I am very ill equipped to do this on many levels, but when it comes to teaching art, I believe I have been given a gift that I can share.

Thank you for all of you who have encouraged me on this journey.  As the days, weeks & months ahead unfold, I expect there will be pretty awesome things happening!  (Either that or I’ll go back to working at an office job to help feed the boys 🙂

Demo on “Intuitive Painting” Feb. 21st

I’d like to say a huge thank you to Opus Art Supply in Langley for inviting me to lead a demo.  I had so much fun, and I met some wonderful people.   Thanks to the many of you who stayed around after to share with me how inspired you were……I am very honoured that you found so much value.   I look forward to the opportunity of doing this again in a few months time.

Jenn's demo

Since accepting the invitation from Opus to lead a demo at the store, I have discovered a new passion for teaching & sharing my gifts. This seems to come as no surprise to those that know me, but it does rather surprise me! I had no idea that there are so many people wanting to learn from me. I also didn’t realize how much I had to share, until I began preparing for the demo.

I’m pleased to announce that I will be having a workshop in May! It will be held Sat. May 23rd & 30th, in Surrey.  More details are on my website under “Events” – Workshops & Demos…… http://www.jennwilliamson.com/workshops-lessons/

Wishing you a creative day!  ~ Jenn
